Wrinkle Correction

Skin wrinkles can be an inevitable part of the aging process, affecting us all at some point as we get older.  Wrinkles and frown lines develop from a variety of causes, whether dietary or lifestyle habits, genetics, sun exposure, or the stresses of life.

As natural as creases and skin folds may be, some people dread the onset of skin wrinkles as a telling sign of aging. At Cirencester Dental and Aesthetics, our Facial Aesthetic Practitioners can relax the appearance of wrinkles using Azzalure© botulinum toxin treatment, giving you a younger, rejuvenated appearance, restoring your confidence and self-esteem.

What can be expected from wrinkle correction?

Following a comprehensive facial consultation our dentists will prescribe a programme of treatment.  Azzalure© botulinum toxin is injected into the treatment area, using very fine needles.  The botulinum toxin blocks the impulse from the nerves which instruct the facial muscles to contract.  This relaxing effect reduces the appearance of wrinkles that form in the skin.

Patients are often concerned that wrinkle correction treatment means they will be left with a ‘frozen’ face that is not capable of normal movements.  Our Practitioners are skilled at softening the appearance of dynamic wrinkles without making the face appear stiff or unnatural.

Botulinum toxin will take a few days to show full effect, so you will notice a gradual smoothing of your skin from 2 to 6 days after treatment.  We normally arrange a review appointment 2 weeks after your treatment to assess the results.

How do I prepare for wrinkle correction?

As part of your facial consultation we will ask you complete a medical history questionnaire.  We will check whether you have certain medical conditions or taking medications that could prohibit you from receiving wrinkle reducing treatments.  We do not recommend that you have treatment if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or receiving certain medical treatments.  Treatment is suitable for men and women.

Will it hurt?

There is minimal discomfort during treatment, no more than a slight pinch.  However, if you would prefer to have some numbing cream, please feel free to discuss this during your consultation.

Aftercare

Immediately after treatment you will need to keep upright and avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area, this will help to keep the solution in the correct place.  There are a few other simple measures to follow, and you will be advised of these during your consultation.

In terms of longevity, every patient responds differently, and it will depend on the prescribed dose where the botulinum toxin has been injected.  Usually wrinkle correction will last between three to six months, when the treatment can be safely repeated.
